Artist Statement
After graduating with a major in studio art, I took my paints outdoors and began learning to paint through practiced observation. After taking workshops and further courses and acquiring specialized gear, stamina, and the ability to handle discomfort, weather, and creatures large and small, I became dedicated to Plein Air painting. After more than fifty years at it, I now combine plein air work with studio sessions experimenting with abstractions of landscapes and seascapes.
Any time I paint a landscape or seascape I have to square myself spiritually to the land, water, and sky in order to translate what I perceive to what I paint. My goal is to hold the time and place while instilling a spirit in the painting itself. Referred to by one critic as 'traditional art with a contemporary flair,' my paintings are inspired by an enduring love of nature.
