Coastal New England Plein Air Paintings
On the island of Monhegan off the coast of Maine, you can walk around the coastline - on top of the cliffs and sometimes on the beach - and everywhere you look there's 'the view.' This view catches the eye of everyone who sees it, a cottage perched on a rocky outcrop just above a little cove, looking back toward the mainland. It would be a wonderful spot to get away from it all, except for those of us who are spying at it from across the cove. Perhaps that is why the former owner bought his own island and then moved to it...
In any case, this was painted from on-site sketches and photographs about five years after being there, and won a prize at the 70th Fall Salon of Cambridge Arts Association.
